There's always room for growth on the ground floor, but 16 entries deep? Just reboot it already. I think everybody would have some kind of a different score if it wasn't attached to the franchise. (Shuffling arena to arena, empty open spaces, little reward for exploration) For me, for a while, i felt like final fantasy chases tails more than innovates and it resonates now.īut yes my score would soften if it wasn't attached to the franchise. Some diehard fans are meh, but most love it.Įven on the most top of the line hardware on the market right now, many reviews point out the dated design elements. Zelda, even though it's on dated hardware, is at the front of the pack, giving people what they really want and tons of it. It did adopt the open world format to kind of evolve with the times but that's where I think the big difference is between franchises. I did that backwards but you know what I mean. But The Thing I always got from the series was they're kind of telling the same legend, It just differs based on who and where you are when you ask. You're still Link, saving Hyrule from Ganon with the power of the TriForce. I mean, the overall game play for Zelda has indeed changed, but it's got all the core DNA. But from everything I've seen, I just don't "get it" I suppose.Īny Final Fantasy fans here that could possibly shed some insight? I don't have a PlayStation 5 so I can't try the game out for myself. Am I not giving it a fair chance? Is there something I'm missing? Perhaps the narrative is really amazing or something? ![]() Final Fantasy seems to be a similar kind of game in terms of its genre, but with the whimsy dialed down to 0%, and none of the interesting gameplay possibilities seem to be present either. and on the aesthetic side of things, the world is full of fantastical wonder and whimsy, and the characters have so much life and personality. in Xenoblade, on the gameplay side of things, there's such a sense of scale and progression, filling out the map, finding landmarks, finding materials, experimentation with your combat options, finding the overpowered "Unique Monsters". I like Xenoblade, so I don't mind a huge world full of sidequests. Can someone who's more familiar with Final Fantasy let me know if there is actually an interesting game hiding underneath the surface? Like. And the world exploration doesn't seem to have much more to it than just going from point A to point B whenever you have a sidequest that needs doing. The world is extremely bleak and completely humourless, and the combat seems repetitive and extremely frequent. So I'm not exactly a huge fan of Final Fantasy (I've played some of the classic ones, but haven't really explored the series extensively)Īnd from the surface, looking at the game on websites here and there, Final Fantasy 16 doesn't look very appealing. I'm not surprised Zelda has put itself above Final Fantasy again. Please read our FTC Disclosure for more information.
